Kosovo Police calls for implementation of road traffic rules since the loss of human lives in accidents remains a concern

Prishtinë, 8 July 2017

Referring Kosovo Police statistics related the number of accidents in the traffic road, although there is a decrease of traffic accidents with material damages, the number of accidents with bodily injuries and with fatality has been increased comparing it with the six-month period of the last year (2016).

Kosovo Police is constantly attempting through its preventive activities and police active measures to impact in the awareness of traffic participants for a greatest security in traffic, however the number of lost lives in traffic accidents in our roads still remains a serious concern.

Knowing that especially during the summer season we have a great flow of vehicles, and also the movement of people is denser, we appeal all traffic participants especially the drivers to be more vigilant and to respect the rules arising by the traffic law; to adapt the speed limit determined by the traffic signs, to avoid driving when tired or sleepy, to not drive the vehicle when under the alcohol effect and to not use the mobile phone, because such non-safe acts may lead to accidents and loss of human lives.

Even though the Police main purpose is not to apply punitive measures (penalties) in traffic, they are determined that except the awareness activities, campaigns and constant appeals will also undertake harsh legal acts to all the participants/drivers who risk the people’s lives.

Kosovo Police, respectively the Road Traffic Division with the aim to provide traffic safety as well as raising the awareness for all participants in traffic, has drafted the leaflet “YOU BETTER SAFELY ARRIVE, THEN BECOME THE NEWS”. The Police units in the entire country roads such as local, regional and highways have begun to spread this leaflet for the traffic participants.

This leaflet shows the accidents statistics from 2016 and also contains messages for the traffic participants which serve for a greater safety and also for more careful actions during the circulation in the road to avoid life losing.

Attached to this press release you also find the leaflet into three languages as well as the comparative statistics of the accidents for the six-months period 2016/2017.
