On 24th June 2025, at the premises of Camp Vrella, Kosovo Police, in cooperation with the OSCE Mission in Kosovo and the Embassies of France and Germany, through an official ceremony, carried out the handover of five special vehicles for the unit with official dog – K9, as well as an official dog of the Belgian Malinois breed, donated by the Embassy of France.
At this ceremony, the General Director of the Kosovo Police, Colonel Gazmend Hoxha, and the acting Deputy Minister Bardhyl Dobra, expressed their gratitude for the continuous support and contribution of international partners in the development of the operational capacities of the Police and in particular the K9 unit.
Ambassadors Mr. Gerard McGurk, Head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Mr. Olivier Guerot, Ambassador of France in Kosovo, and Jorn Rohde, Ambassador of Germany in Kosovo, during their speeches emphasized the importance of international cooperation in strengthening the capacities of security institutions in the Republic of Kosovo, in this occasion the K9 unit.
This donation represents an important element of strategic cooperation with the OSCE and international partners within the framework of the project to combat small arms and light weapons (SALW). Over the past few years, ongoing support has included building training capacities, donating vehicles and official dogs, as well as developing the necessary training infrastructure.
Through this cooperation, the operational capacities of the K9 unit in the areas prevention of crime, response to dangerous situations and support for specialized police operations have been significantly improved, capacities which were also proven through a practical exercise implemented at the K9 unit’s polygon.
