“Prevention of sexual violence and the importance of early reporting”

On April 24, 2026, Kosovo Police, in cooperation and with the support of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Mission in Kosovo, organized a roundtable discussion on the topic “Prevention of sexual violence and the importance of early reporting”, which was held in Pristina with the participation of representatives of key institutions in the prevention of this phenomenon.
This roundtable was attended by representatives from the Kosovo Police, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Labor, Family and Values of the Liberation War, Municipal Education Directorates, the Directorate of Labor and Social Welfare, school principals, as well as other institutional actors and partners who play an important role in preventing and handling cases of sexual violence.
During the roundtable, the importance of the role of educational institutions in raising awareness among pupils and young people, informing them about the forms of sexual violence, its consequences and reporting mechanisms, was emphasized. It was assessed that schools constitute an important environment for the early identification of cases and for encouraging reporting on time.
Discussions focused on the institutional handling of cases, the implementation of protective measures, the roles and responsibilities of institutional actors, as well as the challenges in risk assessment and management. The need for a coordinated and integrated approach, focused on the protection and support of victims, was also highlighted.
Kosovo Police remains committed to preventing and combating sexual violence, encouraging citizens to report any suspected case, in order to enable immediate response and professional handling by responsible institutions.
