CLARIFICATION FOR MEDIA

Referring to the statements and publishing of a video sequence from the Serbian List, dated 02.03.2023, and after that published in some Serbian media in which it is seen a woman with her child communicating with police officers allegedly expressing her concern that the police officers who were at the checkpoint are disturbing the residents with their presence, we inform you and at the same time clarify that:

The public order police unit from the Zveçan police station, according to official duty, on 02.04.2023 after 21:00, as usual, started with a checkpoint in the center of Zveçan, to maintain the order and public safety, providing security to citizens and the prevention of various criminal activities.

While performing the official duties defined according to the legislation in force, the police officers, at the checkpoint, have shown professional behavior when contacting with citizens as well as when stopping the vehicles for routine checks, where they have also written official notices/reports for this.

While implementing the checkpoint, somewhere around 21:45, a female (woman) with a child in her hand went, based on the spoken language, she may belong to the Serbian community, who addressed the police officers with questions about why you are holding checkpoints, why you are stopping the cars, why you are bothering us, allegedly her husband came home worried when he drove past the police patrol, etc.

The police officers politely responded to the woman, informing her that they are there to provide security and that they are at the service to all citizens/residents of Zveçan without distinction. Also, there is no complaint against the work, presence or behavior of the police officers and that if you have any complaints about the behavior of officials, you can address a complaint to the police station or even to the competent institutions.

It is worth emphasizing that the woman in question together with the child were not detained at all by the Kosovo Police, but the same went to the police unit herself to communicate with them and, in all likelihood, to realize the filming of the video sequence published.

Therefore, based on the official reports, it is confirmed that the Kosovo Police, through professional conduct, continues to remain committed to the implementation of legal tasks and authorizations, in the interest of maintaining order and public safety, as well as providing security to all citizens without distinction, and at the same time invites all citizens to contact the police institution for their treatment by officers in any case or request. We also invite the media to contact the Kosovo Police for official information.
